Permeable paving uses an open-graded stone so the gaps between particles stay connected all the way through the surface. Rain passes straight down into the base below instead of running across the top to a gully.
That matters where a site has no easy drainage run, where adding hard standing would otherwise need a soakaway, or where water currently pools against a building.
The finish looks the same as a standard resin bound surface. The difference is in the stone grading and the build-up underneath, which has to be able to take the water the surface lets through.
When permeable is the right call
Standing water
Where a yard or patio holds puddles after rain and there is nowhere obvious to drain them to.
Drainage approvals
Where a permeable surface is the simpler route to getting hard standing signed off.
Tree roots
Water and air still reach the ground, so planting near the surface is less likely to suffer.
Finished work
Permeable surfaces laid across domestic and commercial sites.
