Resin bound is a mix of washed, graded stone and a clear two-part resin, blended on site and troweled out while it is still workable. Every piece of stone is coated and locked to the ones around it, so the finished surface is solid underfoot with no loose material.
Because it is laid as an overlay, we can usually go straight over sound concrete or asphalt. That keeps the cost and the disruption down compared with digging out and starting again.
It is laid between 15 mm and 20 mm deep depending on what uses it. Walkways and patios sit at the lower end. Driveways carrying cars, SUVs and light trucks go deeper.
Depth and price
The material is the same. What changes is how deep it goes, and that is what moves the rate per square foot.
15 mm — walkways, patios, pool surrounds
Foot traffic only. Crushed glass and sand in the blend keep it secure underfoot when wet.
$3.88
per sq ft, resin only
18–20 mm — driveways
Cars, SUVs and light trucks. The extra depth carries the load where vehicles turn and brake.
$4.79
per sq ft, resin only
Where it works
Driveways
Over sound concrete or asphalt at 18–20 mm, with no loose stone to track into the garage.
Patios & paths
15 mm over an existing slab, laid up to edges and around planting without cuts.
Pool surrounds
Slip resistant when wet, and it drains rather than holding puddles at the edge.
